National Mathematics and Science Olympiad (NMSO)

This Olympiad is conducted by the Ministry of Education for Grade 6 students. The Sri Lanka Olympiad Mathematics Foundation has been working closely with the Ministry of Education on this Olympiad since 2008. A team selected from this Olympiad is sent to the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary annually held in Indonesia. In 2008 the Sri Lanka Olympiad Mathematics Foundation set the mathematics papers of NMSO and trained the mathematics team selected for the international competition – NMSO competition consists of three papers, short answer questions, essay questions, and explorations questions. For the first time Sri Lankan team won two Bronze medals in mathematics at International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary 2008 held in Indonesia.

 

National Mathematics and Science Olympiad 2009

In September and October of 2009 Sri Lanka Olympiad Mathematics Foundation conducted two residential training camps for NMSO 2009 – first one of 5 days duration for the national pool of 27 students and the second one of 10 days duration for the national team of six students. The national team of 6 students was selected from the national pool based on the performance at NMSO 2009. At the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary 2009 held in Indonesia the Sri Lankan team won one Bronze medal though hampered by fever and one being not able to sit the competition.
