Sri Lankan Mathematical Olympiad 2004 This competition was held on May 22 & 29, 2004 at the University of Colombo. Seven hundred and ninety six students participated in the Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition 2004 and twenty-six of them proceeded to the Sri Lankan Mathematics Challenge Competition. At the Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition 2004, 43 students were awarded High Distinction Certificates and 83 students were awarded Distinction Certificates. High Distinction Certificates were awarded at the Sri Lankan Mathematical Olympiad 2004 Award Ceremony, which was held on September 18, 2004 at the Auditorium of the University of Colombo School of Computing. Based on the performance at the Sri Lankan Mathematics Challenge Competition 2004 the following team was selected to represent Sri Lanka at the 45th IMO held in Athens, Greece. 1. Mr. W. M. H. M. R. M. D. T. B. Karunatilaka; The British School in Colombo 6. Mr. L. M. Liyanage; Richmond College, Galle This team competed at the 45th IMO on July 12 & 13, 2004. Sri Lanka did quite well at this competition – two of our students, Widanalage Madushanka Dinesh Soysa from Richmond College, Galle and Supun Thamara Samarakoon from Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, won Honourable Mentions! They were awarded Rs. 5000 each at the Sri Lankan Mathematical Olympiad 2004 Award Ceremony. The following three students were selected as Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal winners respectively of the Sri Lankan Mathematical Olympiad 2004. At the award ceremony, in addition to medals, these three students were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000, and Rs. 2000 respectively, . 1. Mr. W. M. H. M. Alles; Royal College, Colombo 03 2.
