The Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition (SLMC) 2026 is a nationally recognised mathematics competition conducted for school students from Grades 3 to 13, in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
The competition is designed to promote logical reasoning, critical thinking, creativity, and deep conceptual understanding in mathematics, extending beyond routine school examinations. SLMC serves as the official entry point to Sri Lanka’s national mathematics olympiad pathway, ultimately leading to selection for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
🎯 Objectives of the Competition
The Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition aims to:

✔ Encourage reasoning and problem-solving over memorisation
✔ Identify mathematically talented students at an early stage
✔ Prepare students for advanced national and international competitions
✔ Foster long-term interest and confidence in mathematics

Participants must fall within one of the following age categories:
🔹 SLMC 4 – Born on or after 01 February 2016
🔹 SLMC 5 – Born between 01 February 2015 – 31 January 2016
🔹 SLMC 8 – Born between 01 February 2012 – 31 January 2015
🔹 SLMC 11 – Born between 01 February 2009 – 31 January 2012
🔹 SLMC 13 – Born between 01 July 2006 – 31 January 2009

This stage assesses students’ logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and conceptual understanding through carefully structured, age-appropriate problems.
